Family Christmas Holidays
In december, I join the Collective “30 minutes in the life…” with a group of photographers throughout the world. The idea of this initiative is to document 30 minutes of our lives. Of course, for December, the theme is “festive”, so I have decided to invite you in my home for my Family Christmas Holidays.
For our family Christmas holidays, we are staying at my parents, in Puimisson, small village of the South of France. Here, it is my childhood home, the place where I grew up and lived all my magical Christmas times. Even at the age of 35 years old, I can hardly imagine spending my family Christmas holidays anywhere else.
It’s 3.30 pm. The house is flooded with light and calm. It reigns a delicate smell of cinamon and vanilla from the Fragonnard candle I offered my mum last Xmas. The fire is dancing quietly in the fireplace, and we can hear the soft sound of my Grand-Father snoring on the sofa. Lenny is colouring, kindly watched over by his great Grand-Mother, and upstairs, his younger brother Zacharie is starting to wake up from his nap. I particularly love this moment of the day. Where bodies and souls let go. Each one of us is at ease, with a book, a colouring pencil, a painting brush, a set of cards, or simply with a comfortable blanket. I love this moment when the beautiful winter light invades the living room and makes our eyes blind a little. Every thing is the house becomes object of 1001 lights, making the twinkle lights on the xmas tree tremble with jealousy.
Then, it is snack and tea time, in french called “goûter”, and let’s say that around here it isn’t for kids only ! It smells of coffee, xmas cookies, Panetonne, and of course, the mandatory kids fruit compote. Laughters burst out loud, and echoe so very deep in our hearts, warmed up from being in each other’s company.
After snack time, we savour cuddles, especially for those having trouble waking up from their nap. During our family Chritsmas holidays, Time is put on hold for a while on our day to day hectic rythms. Just for days we swop deadlines, meetings and responsabilities for cuddles, board games and slow living.
Life keeps on going, we go back to our activities of sewing, water painting, reading, cooking…We rake pleasure in being all together, 4 generations under a same roof.
We cherish these precious time, these 30 minutes in our lives.
